On them he traversed some 30,000 zig-zagging miles through thirty eight of the lower forty eight states and seven of the ten Canadian provinces. And yielded in the process an untold number of encounters weaved by confronting personal fears, history, worldly cities, eccentric people and adventurous activities. The real prize afforded by the time, distance and space however, was his spiritual awakening. "Risk taking, space flight, life as a soldier and finding one's self: all themes explored in this memoir written by local author Aaron Lauritsen, and if I might add, done so quite well with openness and honesty. In 100 Days Drive: The Great North American Road Trip! Mr. Lauritsen travels around Canada and the United States visiting seven of 10 Canadian provinces and 38 states covering just less than 30,000 miles (that's just less than 48,000 kilometers). The impetus for this journey, as stated by the author, was a crossroads in his life and his decision to do what many people dream of doing. He put his troubles "in the rearview mirror and headed out the door." In the hopes of finding himself again he just left, without any real plan, without a map, and taking roads less traveled where few have been before. The author takes the reader on a journey of self discovery interlaced with personal memories of bad times and good, with accounts of history from experience and study that are at some times unmistakably relatable. Of note is his visualization of what it would have truly been like to be there on the day that John F. Kennedy was shot: from a sniper's point of view (Mr. Lauritsen was a sniper during his time in the Canadian Army), could Lee Harvey Oswald have done it? With the mantra "explore, experience and then push beyond," Lauritsen sets off in search of the adventure of a lifetime. While trying sky-diving in Florida over Cape Canaveral, sleeping outside overnight in New York for tickets to Saturday Night Live and surfing in Tofino among many other experiences, the author found out who he was and what he wanted from life. My favourite part of this memoir is that the author ties his new experiences to the past in such seamless fashion that the reader believes that they are on the journey as well. About the Author
Aaron Lauritsen is a former professional soldier and small business owner turned travel adventurer. He resides with his family in the Foothills west of Calgary Alberta Canada where he cherishes world class craft beer, running painfully slow over long distances and living in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains.

Great road read

Great road read. Aaron weaves his amazing life experiences including his armed forces tours in
with his varried travel adventures to produce an extremely readable book. I couldn't put it down.
For about $1/ mile Aaron and his trusty companion Athena Bear wind their way through North
America on roads less travelled meeting real people, connecting with old friends and experiencing
new locals while getting in some runs in all kinds of weather and environments.
He also was able to wonderfully inject his interest in historical figures like JFK and Al Capone to
where he "crosses paths"with them in different locals throughout his travels. I highly recommend
this book for anyone with an adventuresome spirit who would like to rediscover true America.

Very inspiring! Makes me want to do the same!

I love how you feel like you are on the trip with him, like pals exchanging stories as you pass time on the road. These stories from his childhood and time in the Army are interwoven throughout as memories are conjured up along the way. Some of these stories will stay with you long after you put the book down. But at the same time he manages to paint a descriptive picture of the landscapes he drives through and offers historical insights along the way.This book appeals to travel adventurer'ers, history buffs, soul searchers and anyone who just loves a good story! So good!
