The Ruler of Darkness? The Tempter? The Great Red Dragon? Apollyon; The Destroyer? One being is revealed to have all these titles and more - names that reveal his horrific nature? All names given to Satan, your adversary who comes like a lion "seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8).
Today, many question and even mock the very existence of Satan, as well as the reality of evil. Even in the Church, by and large, there are few biblical resources on the subject to counter the destructive claims raised in today's humanistic culture. In The Fall of Satan: Rebels in the Garden you will discover the answers to 35 captivating questions, such as:
- How could one created good become so absorbed by evil?
- Why would God, who is not evil, allow evil to continue to exist?
- Did sin begin with Adam or was its origin found in Satan?
- When did Satan rebel against God's authority?
Where can the answers be found to such provocative, spiritual questions that have been asked so many times over? Carefully consider the biblical response, since it is the only completely reliable foundation for information about Satan. As our absolute authority, we must reject unqualified conclusions drawn from sources outside the Bible, such as the current ideas and traditions of the culture. No believer should be unaware of these sound answers found in the Bible.

A Much-Needed Book on An Important Subject
By HAL
Wow, what a topic! I recently read The Fall of Satan: Rebels in the Garden by Bodie Hodge, and it is an excellent book that I will definitely be recommending to friends!
Many people in the Church seem to ignore the existence of Satan, or take it lightly. And, obviously, it is a subject often ridiculed and mocked by the unsaved. The media likes to make Satan a topic that is made light of and laughed about...all, I believe, a part of Satan's plan to blind people to his lies. So, this is a book that is desperately needed in these times.
I was very impressed with the way Mr. Hodge presents the information. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Answer Books (also published by Master Books/New Leaf Publishing Group), which are my top 3 favorite apologetics books. Very easy to understand, and the information is presented in a clear, concise manner. The book starts out with the character/personality of Satan, and also deals with his origin-was he a fallen angel, etc. Many areas are discussed throughout the book, such as When was Satan created, did the serpent originally have legs, why wasn't Eve surprised when the serpent spoke to her, was Satan the actual serpent in the garden, etc. And, veering slightly away from the devil but still sticking to the general idea, this book also sheds light on other questions people often ask. Why are we punished for Adam's sin, why didn't Adam and Eve die immediately, when did they rebel, how long ago was the curse, and the big one-what fruit was on the tree?
The answers to these questions and many more are packed into this informative book, in just 164 pages. Talk about information overload! (I will be reading this through again more slowly to catch any details I missed on the first read).
And, as with most, if not all, Master Books I have read, there is also a chapter devoted to explaining the plan of salvation, why we need salvation, and a clear presentation of the Gospel. And, tucked in the back is a bonus chapter that examines one of the most-asked questions regarding Genesis. Who are the Nephilim and the sons of God mentioned in Genesis 6 and Numbers 13? Bodie Hodge does an excellent job of presenting the 4 most commonly-held beliefs about this subject, and giving clear reasoning for why/why not they could be correct. Each point is discussed with various Biblical references backing up his teaching.

Read This Book!
By Anna Grace Wood
Did you ever ask any of the following questions?
Why would God Who is good create Satan who would be evil?
When did Satan become evil?
Did the serpent originally have legs?
How does the devil's lies impact our lives today?
How does original sin affect us today?
Who were the Nephilim?
Did pain exist before the Fall?
If you have, I have a book to recommend to you. Written by Bodie Hodge, The Fall of Satan: Rebels in the Garden, is set up in easy-to-digest nuggets of Scripturally based information to help readers come to knowledge and understanding about Satan, where he came from and how his work impacts our lives today.
The Devil is pleased when we ignore him, pretend he doesn't exist and when we pay him more attention than he deserves. The author of this book makes none of those mistakes; though The Fall of Satan: Rebels in the Garden is technically about Satan, the real emphasis is on God and His Word. As Martin Luther said, "The Devil is God's ape"; the author of this book concurs with that point.
My take? As a homeschooling mother of many, I find this book very useful in answering questions (theirs and mine); therefore this book has earned a permanent place on our bookcase. I would highly recommend it to families as a study or devotional aid or to churches for their libraries.

A Young Earth Creationist Bait-and-Switch
By Rhyme N. Reason
I've chosen to give this book a 2-star rating because it amounts to a bait-and-switch. The title—"The Fall of Satan"—suggests that the overall topic will be a study of who Satan was when first created, what circumstances led to his own fall and how/when that occurred, and what the consequences of his fall have been for planet Earth and the human race who, in the Biblical account, fell into sin and death ourselves due to Satan's personal intervention and temptation. I was particularly hoping for some in-depth discussion of the well-known Ezekiel 28/King of Tyre passage from the standpoint of whether it does or doesn't refer to and give information about Satan (and why)—Bible scholars are in disagreement over this—but the discussion only reiterated/explained the positive position in that debate. Only something like 30–40% of the book deals with the topic of Satan per se, while the remainder deals with ancillary matters and secondary questions, and the book treats everything solely from the perspective of Young Earth Creationism. Mr. Hodge's fellow Young Earth Creationists (YECs) will naturally applaud that observation, but I found the YEC aspects of this book fraught with the usual assortment of strained/questionable reasoning, nonlinear logic, agenda-driven exegesis, rushing of the reader to unwarranted conclusions, and ready-and-uncalled-for insinuation of evil motives on the part of others who are not Young Earthers. I typically interact with new books as I read them by annotating my thoughts and reactions in the margins, and I'm afraid most of my notes this time consisted of counter-objections, frustrations, and rejoinders. The YEC mentality evident in this book, which prompted these reactions on my part, is one that will not admit any possibility of having misread/misunderstood scripture, and one of win-the-debate-at-any-cost-and-by-any-means-possible, rather than examining the data patiently, fairly, and at length, in the pursuit of truth. I cannot fault the book for including the gospel message, but that too need not have been 'snuck in' via bait-and-switch. Readers do notice, and often do not appreciate it, when they are 'handled' with this rather manipulative technique. Last, a general index and an index of scripture citations would help make this book more useful to Mr. Hodge's readers.
