Queen Zixi of Ix, or The Story of the Magic Cloak is a children's book written by L. Frank Baum. It was originally serialized in the early 20th-century American children's magazine St. Nicholas from November 1904 to October 1905, and was published in book form later in 1905 by The Century Company. The events of the book alternate between Noland and Ix, two neighboring regions to the Land of Oz, and Baum himself commented this was the best book he had written. In a letter to his eldest son, Frank Joslyn Baum, he said it was "nearer to the 'old-fashioned' fairy tale than anything I have yet accomplished," and in many respects, it adheres more closely to the fairy tale structure than the Oz books. Although Oz remains the more popular region, many readers have held that Queen Zixi of Ix is a better book than The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL!

This was one of my favorite books as a child - I used to listen to the record (read by Ray Bolger) over and over again. L. Frank Baum out does himself in this one. It is every bit as good as all of the Wizard of Oz books he also penned. Truly magnificent! Read this one to your kids (or just to yourself)!

The Magic Cloak still envokes childhood memories

This is one of those books that you remember reading in front of a fire, and for little girl you probably envisionsed actually slipping on the coat made by fairies. I read this about 20 years ago and I can still summon up the feelings I got reading it, just by hearing, "Queen Xixi." I noticed this book by chance and decided I needed to re-own it. Please read this to you child, even if he happens to be a boy. All of us love fairies, we just haven't seen one, but this book allows us to.

Baum and his incredible, magical prose

Baum presents a high fantasy, set in the rival kingdoms of Ix and Noland. Central to the story is a magic cloak woven by fairies, and the mishaps and adventures that various people experience due to the cloak's existence. Baum, as it is known, is a genius when it comes to story-telling, and his non-stop inventiveness and cleverness has no doubt placed him among the pantheon of children's authors throughout history. This book is highly recommended, not only for children, but for everyone because of its sheer brilliance.

Excellent thought piece.

C.S. Lewis wrote Mere Christianity and it is a well-thought out and well-used logical approach to Christian faith. J.B. Phillips New Testament Christianity takes a serious look at what this ought to look like as our lives are lived out. I highly recommend this book to anyone serious about wanting to walk in Jesus' footsteps and make a difference in our culture.

We know that women made up a significant part of Renaissance theater audiences but how might they have read the plays presented there? This book uses the writings of sixteenth and seventeenth century women to construct a feminist perspective on drama by Shakespeare, Marlowe, Jonson, Middleton, Ford, and their contemporaries.

Chapters are arranged thematically on key issues or genres. Women's religious compositions open up readings of plays like Doctor Faustus and Measure for Measure as interrogations of conventional beliefs which underpinned relations between men and women. Chapter 2 considers drama from across the period, including The Spanish Tragedy, The Revenger's Tragedy and The Maid's Tragedy, to show how revenge tragedy taps into deep fears and desires about women's agency and maternal power. Comedy, the female romantic quest, and the city as a site of female pleasure, are examined in diverse texts such as All's Well That Ends Well, The Duchess of Malfi, The Roaring Girl and Epicoene. Chapter 4 focuses on the household space as a specifically female form of imprisonment, analyzing Romeo and Juliet, Arden of Faversham, The Tragedy of Mariam and The Changeling and other domestic tragedies in the light of Renaissance women's experiences. The final chapter discusses queenship, subjects and women's interventions into masculine history.

Alison Findlay is a lecturer in English at Lancaster University, specializing in feminist approaches to Shakespeare, Renaissance Drama and women's writing of the early modern period.

HEADS UP FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO PURCHASE THIS BOOK !!!

Hello world , I just want to say that if you've enjoyed the " Justice League " animated television series and want to learn how to draw your favorite character from the DC Universe then this book should be added to your library collection !!!

However , not to put this book down but I must confess that this book could have added some more things to make it even better , for example : Turnaround Sheets , Character Attitudes , Facial Expressions. The step - by - step drawing examples that are given in this book are very basic at best , all characters in this book get one pose each which you get a five step breakdown on how to draw them.

Oh and here's a great tip for all of you out there , if you’re interested in collecting the entire set of this book series and I do mean :

1. HOW TO DRAW BATMAN AND HIS FRIENDS AND FOES
2. HOW TO DRAW SUPERMAN AND HIS FRIENDS AND FOES
3. HOW TO DRAW WONDER WOMAN , GREEN LANTERN AND OTHER DC SUPER HEROES
4. HOW TO DRAW THE JOKER , LEX LUTHOR AND OTHER DC SUPER - VILLAINS

Well worth buying and reading

I've always appreciated the work of Sharon Harris and the Advocates, and this new book adds to their great resources. Great tips, great advice on words to use and words to avoid, and on the best ways to positively communicate the message of liberty. Each section makes you think and consider what you would say. All compiled in an enjoyable and easily read format. Highly recommended.
