About the Author
Carolyn Keene is a pen name used by a variety of authors for the classic Nancy Drew Mystery series. A GREAT NOVEL

This is a great novel that I enjoyed. Every sentence keeps you reading. It's not one of those books that you get bored of and put it down. This book you do not want to end. Everything is so exciting. I could not put it down. Before i read this book i hated to read! But then i started reading these books and all i wanted to do was read. I'll say it again, this is a great novel!

Horribly Written...

This book is horrible. Very wordy and difficult to navigate. Suggested for a cure for Insomnia. If you need to read this book for class I suggest you buy a case of Red Bull and hook it up to an IV, or make your coffee with it. The only "Promise" that this book ensures is confusion and wasted time. B. Guy Peters fills paragraphs with examples from Farenheit 451 and other irrational sources. You can honestly read the first sentence and last sentence of every paragraph and the summary at the end of chapters to save many hours of reading non-sense.

This is a terribly written text. The writing is convoluted and the structure is broken. It is riddled with run-on sentences and tangential thoughts.

If you must purchase this book for a class, try to get the professor to give you an outline of what they are looking for you to get out of it. If you are buying this for self study or improvement, find a different text. This isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Awesome resource!

We bought the NA Wildlife Guide to go along with our homeschool curriculum Trail Guide to Learning: Paths of Exploration. This book is AWESOME even if you are not a homeschooler. The NAWG offers a concise description of thousands of creatures. It has a drawing of each animal and a brief summary of their habits and favorite stomping grounds. We use the guide as a reference and then draw the animals. If you have a Curious George in your family, this book offers a great resource all in one book. It's color and the paper weight is thick enough to withstand little hands as they flip thru it. Caution it is about 3 inches think and heavy, so don't plan to take this on a hiking trip or anything like that!

I purchased this as a gift for family, I personally have an older edition and find it invaluable for recognizing plants and animals. It is usually quicker and easier to find an animal or plant in this book than to try and wade through the results from an internet search engine.

The book is very well organized and usually quickly leads to an illustration of the plant, bug or animal your searching for and the short overview usually includes the important details I recommend grabbing this book first before trying internet searches because the idealized illustration makes for easier identification than actual pictures and the short overview included with each entry gives the information you need to narrow down any internet search results to the more useful links.

Excellent desk reference

As a guide to birds, wildflowers, and mushrooms, this book is close to exhaustive and has suited my needs very well (especially wildflowers, which is by far the largest section of the book). The other sections cover mammals, reptiles and amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. I would mainly warn potential that there is next to nothing on insects, and that if you're serious about wildlife field identification, then you probably want more exhaustive books focusing on specific types of plants or animals. As a general guide to North American wildlife, however, its hard to do better than this.

An excellent update of an excellent guide.Works well On Kindle. Good value for money

This the updated version of the Stuart's popular " Field Guide to Mammals of Southern Africa."
In now includes Angola, Zambia and Malawi.
The book is significantly larger-- I by just over 150 pages.
I have both the older Kindle edition and this newer one

The animal descriptions are excellent
Basic details
It starts with a brief summary in a green shaded box.
It gives the animal's common name and zoolological name.
Next length,height at shoulder,weight of male/female. If the animal has horns, details are given.. ( photos often show the horns, and there may be a shot of a young male ( no horns) and a mature male.)
Main pointers to identification are carefully summarised.
( later on the animal's footprint is given and their height off the ground compared to a shadow adult man )
There is a distribution map of the animals current range, a number of maps note the historic range in a different colour.

Horns
These are usually shown in the photos.
However some entries also get line diagrams of horns at various ages. Examples include
Black Wildebeest horns at 6, 12,24, 36 and 48 months.
The Greater Kudu, whose horns have a beautiful spiral are possibly the most beautiful. In the mature bull there is a "double "spiral These changes are shown from 9 months to that of a mature Bull in its prime in some 6 stages that take well over30 months plus
Horn structure that change with time are shown for some other antelope. I found these diagrams interesting.

Photos
The photos are excellent.Where a number of books have one , there are often several.
Where there is a difference between male and female this is often shown.
Shots of mother's with young are fairly frequent.. Some antelope hide their young for a period after their birth. In the section on Puku , there is a good photo of a Puku lamb curled up hidden in longish grass.
Important points of identification are captured in the shots, in some cases to make sure you got the point, a clear detail shot or inset is included-- the black stripe on the Impala's buttock area., or the black blaze on the face of the Black faced Impala.-- I could pick more difficult examples , but this is just to make a point about their attention to detail and keenness for you to grasp the details better. ( I am currently struggling to get clear in my mind various antelope,bucks and bocks etc and I have found both their descriptions and pictures very helpful.)
The photos are of a good size. They upscale well on the IPad
Descriptions
The descriptions give details on animal identification,distribution, habitat, behaviour, food, social features, reproduction, longevity etc.
These descriptions are fairly full and certainly informative.

Summary.
There is a very useful A--Z common animal name linked access at the front of the book.
If you want Zebra, push Zebra.
If you want Hyraxes push Hyraxes and so on.
The Stuart's have continued to improve their excellent guide.
It now includes Angola, Zambia and Malawi. New species from these areas are included in the book.-- sorry I am still tracking them down.
What makes the book for me-- the plentiful and excellent photos often showing male / female shots and some female shots may have the female with their offspring. Helpful shot of points of identification are often included.
Almost as good is their text which covers many matters you want to know about as you get to know the animals better.
All in all , this is an excellent book .
It works well on my IPad Kindle Reader.

Excellent field guide. Might be a little too heavy to carry in the field, but it would be an excellent reference to peruse when back in camp. I'm looking forward to using it.

Way better than.the normal easyway book

I actually bought both books :-)

The easyway one and the onlyway one.

The onlyway is quite a bit longer and more of a narrative style.

For some reason the onlyway got through to me whereas the easyway book didn't.

Bear in mind that both books are about the easyway to stop smoking.

I'm now a happy (seriously) non smoker. Really this is totally different to trying to give up cigarettes using willpower.

If you have a rational mind you will appreciate his methods :-)

With so many other reviews about this book out there I will not spend a lot of time or words on Allen Carr's volume here. Others have described it very well. I have read his "Easyway To...." several times which is a more concise (meaning less wordy) book focusing on a brief history of his "discovery" and personal journey with smoking to his ideas about smoking and stopping that make up the basics of his program. AFTER reading, or shall I say attempting to read this volume, I went with an e-reader copy of Carr's "Little Book of Quitting" for personal review purposes. Perhaps I over indulged (pun intended) in Carr's wisdom, but to be honest I could not get through this massive volume.
Qualifications about this volume : I think he wrote it B4 writing the slimmer "Easyway" book. It is a thick softcover and goes into great detail the logic and illogic of ideas related to smoking and stopping. It is printed in small font, and that is an issue for me these days (an e reader lets you magnify / zoom for easier viewing) and I have read so many books over the years it was probably a personal thing that I could not finish it. I cannot blame Carr for the style of publication, but as a reader I can say "too much information" and aim it at him/her. It was too much for me, anyway.
Conclusion : IF you have the time, energy, and patience to swim with this volume, then go ahead, you will probably learn a great deal about smoking and aspects of it. But - if like me you just want to know the basics and then pick up details later in further research from the Internet or perhaps another book somewhere down the line, I would have to say avoid this volume and go for one of his later publications or even treat yourself to his online quit smoking seminar ($150 as of this writing, versus $450 for his "live" seminars) that are the cornerstone of his work. I think Allen Carr has real value in the self help world of smoking cessation and that was my motivation to investigate this earlier volume of his.

Hey skeptics. It works.

It helped me quit. Quit for nine years and started up for four years and it was way harder to quit the second time. Tried patches and cutting down without success. Willpower was useless. At wits end I read this and quit. No withdrawals. No need for patches. No longing for the routine of lighting up and relaxing after work. It just worked.

Most Important book on Male Sacred Sexuality

Forget about the kama sutra, and forget about every new age book on sacred sexuality out there. Here is an actual sexual science, and being taoist in nature, it is a very hardcore set of metaphysics and practices. Many of us are let down by other books on sexuality while out there looking for a way to revolutionize our sex lives. This one will actually do it. However the one thing that I must say to warn prospective buyers on is that it is not exactly an easy book to practice. Mantak Chias method of writing is extremely informative, and though these topics are esoteric he writes in a manner that is not at all difficult to read or understand. However I just wanted to say that following the authenticity of these taoist sexual sciences/metaphysics and practices, they are not for those who are looking for a book to just give them a new sexual technique or position that they can then just turn around and jump into with their lover. These practices are in fact practices, and being such they require actual effort and commitment. And they are not easy. They are not difficult or impossible, as with some manuals on taoist or other esoteric spiritual practices, where they will actually tell you that you need a guru/master to guide you through the practice in order to do it properly, so there is really no point in reading the book. No, the book is highly possible, and provides a viable practice for anyone who has real interest in practicing it. But this is not just a book of sex. This is a book of Chi kung, sexual alchemy, sexual sorcery, cunnlingus, and other very advanced sexual practices. not necessarily for a beginner who just likes to have sex and has heard that tantra and taoism can bring their sex life to a new level. Its for people who are serious about spirituality and their practice of it. So if you are interested in transmuting baser sexual energies into higher forms of energy, power, and enlightenment, and becoming a higher sexual being in the taoist shaman sense of the concept. This book is your holy grail my friend, and the most important book a serious male sacred sexual practitioner can have in his library, and perhaps one of the only he may ever need.

Taoist sexual cultivation for longevity and health, greater love and even healthy, sex-positive celibacy.

This book is one of the books that started the whole buzz about so-called "Taoist sex," now widely misunderstood as being simply about more effective lovemaking. What I love about the book is that the techniques taught here are grounded in traditional Taoist teaching that is part of the larger science of longevity. In this regard it is much in harmony with the Indian science of Ayur Veda, which basically means the same thing. The point is first to gradually become able to better enjoy one's outward sexual expression through a restraint and re-channeling of the instinctive energy of sex inwards and "upwards" so that it eventually becomes an internal marriage of the feminine and masculine within, whether or not there is any outward expression of sex. In this way, the book is just as valuable to those seeking to become celibate in an emotionally healthy and sex-positive way as it is for those who wish to use these techniques for longevity or for therapy. The yoga tradition speaks of becoming "urdhva-retas," one whose seminal energies flow "upward" and inward rather than "downward" and out, but outside the oral tradition of yoga, there are few specific practices one can do to cultivate this state. The traditions of Taoist Qi Gong provide those practices and do so in a way that is loving and positive towards the role of sexuality in life.

Must read for sure.

This book is definitely a must read for every male. Changed my life not only in terms of sex, but it also explained a lot of sexual phenomena I have observed in the real world but never really understood why they occurred. This book is a must read, and after you read it, read it again, and again. I have read the more popular book from Mantak Chia called the multi-orgamisc man and I definitely think book is superior.
