No romance or courting but lots of foreplay.

Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. This was a quickie in more ways than one. Jemmas and Archers wedding took less than a week to happen and only one day of actually ever seeing each other to come to an arrangement of receiving $1 million dollars in exchange for thirty days of marriage. WHAT? I guess billionares do it differently than normal people. This was a whirlwind without romance type of relationship that revolved around mind blowing sex. I never really got a true understanding of these characters personality and saw no development or conflict that warranted this story to be told. It needed an emotional spark to make the readers care about Archer, Jemma, her sister especially his mother, but the storylines and certain plots were introduced with no further mention. Great story and concept but fell short somehow of really engaging my emotions.

When Jemmea meets Archer at the wedding of her ex boyfriend, she had no idea how her life is about to change. She is working two jobs to support herself and her younger sister. He is a billionaire, single hottie. She had no idea who he is. After a short conversation she expects to never see him again. Fate brings them together after her car breakes down. He offer her a ride home and make her a offer. He is in need of a wife for 30 days, for this he will pay 1 million dollars. She is torn, but her financial situation help to make the choice easy. She loses her job, all her bills are 3mos past due. What each of them thought would be short term quickly changes. Easc of them have trust issues, but find they are falling in love. He has a company to save, a brother that is not trust worthy, a mother who thinks Jemmea is not good enough for him and a personal lawyer who wants him. She has no money, a father who is a serial husband (6 marriges), a sister who does not help and a mother who barley helps herself. Everything looks like these two are never going to be a real couple. There are secrets and mistrust, misunderstandings and possible jail for one of them. Will they end it in 30 days or can they overcome all and make it a real marriage? The only area that they have no problem is in the bed room or just about anywhere, the sex is hot. I received this ARC copy with the promise of a honest review and I can honestly say that this is a must read.

A Fun Fantasy

So honestly? I just couldn't see this story happening in Real Life. Maybe it's just me and I'm jaded, because never in my life have I just run into a billionaire, and had him offer me a million dollars to marry him for a month. But if you think of this as a fairy tale, (and after all, it IS fiction, right?) then it is a really fun story. Jemma is a very down to earth character, struggling to get by and being somewhat taken advantage of by her sister and her ex. Archer is a billionaire who really, really, REALLY likes sex. It was lust at first sight. Alot of really great scenes, enjoyable characters, but for some reason I just didn't feel the chemistry between these two. Somehow, Archer was just too nice to be real. It sure is a nice fantasy, though. With alot of very real editing errors.

About the Author
Gareth Morgan is well known for his creative contributions to management. He is the author of seven books, including Images of Organization, Creative Organization Theory, Imaginization and Riding the Waves of Change. He acts as consultant and seminar leader to numerous organizations throughout Europe and North America, and is Distinguished Research Professor at York University in Toronto. He has sat on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management, and Organization Studies; and is a Life Fellow of the International Academy of Management. Born in Wales, he now lives in Toronto with his wife, Karen and their children Evan and Heather.

Lisa, Bright and Dark is a short book consisting of 143 pages in medium font. Sometimes Lisa sits alone and starts to hear voices. She hears them inside her head and they are certainly not her own. Cheerful, optimistic Lisa fails to be the usual Lisa from time to time by dressing in black costume-her beauty subsides to this by shriveling up into a face that's much too pale and thin. Lisa sits through class in a cold daze and has to use all her energy and strength to answer a single question in class. She is drained of every possible hope to live. Lisa is starting to go crazy.
Being a smart girl she tells her parents but they 'ignore' her. Her teachers close their eyes and decide not to understand and Lisa falls continuously whilst also trying desperately to get the adults around her to notice her, getting her voice heard and running away from her illness. Luckily, Mary Nell Ficket (MN) who seems identified in the story as Lisa's closest friend decides to do something about the whole matter.
Along with her friend Betsy Goodman who has never met Lisa before and yet seems to be the only one Lisa feels safe enough to talk to and Elizabeth Frazer who seems to hug deeply a secret that makes her so strong and controlling with Lisa's craziness-the three of them show Lisa, it's her friends who'll make her better.
When you pick up the book in the beginning you have the impression that it is a book based on Lisa completely in a diary format. Well, that's what you get the impression of from other reviews anyway. But surprisingly enough, the more you read-the more you come to realise that Lisa isn't infact the main character much more than the rest of the characters are. Lisa creates a chain of situations and instead of Lisa, we become more attached to her friends who try and clean up the situations and help Lisa regain herself.
This book is easy to read for any age over 12 but it may seem a little intimidating. If you are giving it to a child you ought to be careful. It certainly isn't an average "Ask Alice" style book, it's much more dense if you look into it. Otherwise, it's a good book to read whilst you have a few minutes. I suggest you read it in a noisy atmosphere or a bright environment or you'll become a little drowsy at the end of the book and get a tiny bit 'down' yourself.

I read this book in grade school, and decided to read it again,does not disappoint. Sometimes, as parents we loose sight of what is in front of us. Great book!

Lisa is smart, pretty, popular and going insane. On "bright days" she's normal. On "dark days" she just sits there at her schooldesk and listens to the voices inside her head. Realizing that she is ill, she asks her parents to take her to a psychiatrist. They ignore the problem and say she's just going through a stage.
Lisa begins to act increasingly bizarrely. An episode of self-mutilation at school earns her a six-week vacation in Florida, but no actual help. By then her teachers have realized that something is seriously wrong, but their hands are tied. The only people who really try to help Lisa are her friends: Mary Nell, Betsy, and Elizabeth. Together they form a therapy group where Lisa sits and talks to them about what's going on. But it doesn't help. Lisa walks through a plate-glass window; her parents still don't pay attention. Only when she attempts suicide do they really wake up.
I found this book to be rather dated. It was written back in the sixties. The parents' reaction was unbelievable and the ending came too quickly and too fairy-taleishly. I'm not saying it was a terrible book, but I've read many that were much better.

Great Stuff

This book is great stuff for Enterprise Architects. The discussion of Zachman is better than any of the Zachman Institues articles. The explanation of the value of architectural meta-models is excellent.

On the down side, the meta-models presented are very good EXCEPT that the author still presents data as being a part of an application. Surely 20 or so years after James Martin we are past that. Applications with their own data schemata are to be avoided and suppressed, rather than endorsed.

If your are a "real" Enterprise Architect, then this is book indispensable, but review all of the meta-models carefully to insure that they comply with your particular religion.

Data Model Patterns - A Metadata Map by David C. Hay

David Hay has produced another great book for the Data Architect, Data Administrator, and others who seek to understand data models, patterns in models, and metadata. It's more abstract than the previous Data Model Patterns, Conventions of Thought, and the focus is on information about information or metadata. The book is based on an Architecture Framework that is derived from John Zachman's "Framework for Enterprise Architecture". Examples are well developed and understandable. Much of the book expands on work and discussions through the Business Rules Group so you know the content is rock solid.

I especially liked the Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) for the EntityType, Attribute, and RelationshipEnd. This simple but comprehensive model allows for super and sub types and recursion. The Class Model (UML) with its components parallels the similarities for the object oriented perspective. One of the fundamental strengths of this book is the ability to view metadata from different perspectives. "Gemba" is a wonderful word from the worlds of Total Quality Management, Lean Thinking, and Six Sigma. It means "real place". This book is "gemba" for metadata. The different views or perspectives of metadata are excellent and perhaps that's why it fits the Architecture Framework so nicely.

Within each chapter, David Hay discusses a column of the Architecture Framework. The chapter on people and organizations is awesome! He covers the business owner's view, the architect's view, designer's view and security and governance. Significant numbers of easy to follow color-coded diagrams accompany each section in all the chapters that clarify and elaborate on the text discussion. At each level, the topic is put into the Zachman framework for added clarity.

The chapter on the motivation column is also exceptional. I've never seen ERDs for mission, vision, objective, goal, desired result, means, tactic, strategy, directive, fact, business rule, business policy, enforcement, and consequence. How outstanding! That chapter alone is worth the price of the book and it really got me to thinking in much larger metadata type terms. Those organizations faced with governmental and business policies such as Sarbanes-Oxley will have much to think about with this data model!

Back in 2002, it was my distinct pleasure to read for the first time David Hay's book, Requirements Analysis: From Business Views to Architecture. That book is excellent and is packed full of features that really impressed me. He's included those same terrific features in this book as well. So as I wrote then, I'll repeat now: "The index is excellent! It's quite extensive, complete, and well organized. The bibliography is also exceptional and very complete. The glossary of terms is first rate! I especially liked the notations of chapters where the terms were documented. All of these excellent features point to the superb organization of the book. It's a classic read and a must-have reference!"
